Resolutions, Stick to them!

Stick to your new year’s resolutions!

With the new year approaching us, I’m sure many of us are going to make resolutions. To help you stick to resolutions you need realistic resolutions and start small.

It can be hard to stick to new year’s resolutions when your list is as long as your holiday shopping list. It is important to remember that the new year isn’t meant to serve as a catalyst for changing your whole character. This is the chance to reflect on past behaviors and make positive changes in your life. “Setting small, attainable goals throughout the year, instead of a singular, overwhelming goal on January 1 can help you reach whatever it is you strive for.”

Starting small so you can keep up with your resolutions. If you want to workout more, plan 3-4 days a week you can workout instead of starting off the bat with 7 days a week. If you want to start eating healthier then try replacing your dessert with something else you enjoy like fruit or yogurt. Don’t look at becoming healthier as a form of punishment, you can enjoy being healthy if you do it the right way.

Talking about your experience will also help you. Try doing your resolution with other people so you’re not alone in it. Whether that is doing something with your coworkers, joining a community gym, or doing it with your family. Having someone to share your struggles and successes with makes the journey a lot easier and less intimidating.

Don’t beat yourself up. Perfection is unattainable and minor missteps are completely normal and OK. Don’t give up just because you broke your diet, or skipped the gym for a week because you were busy. Resolve to recover from your mistakes and get back on your track.

Always ask for support if you need it. It is so easy to find people who can help you in your fitness journey or health journey in general. Try different things out until you find the one thing you really enjoy. Don’t stress if you mess up your diet for one day or you are too busy for one week to workout, keep working towards your resolution and don’t give up.
