How to avoid overheating during exercising?
No matter where you are exercising, anyone can overheat while working out. Your body usually cools yourself off for you by sweating when you get too hot. When you exercise in hot weather your body temperature system has to work a lot harder to make sure you maintain a safe temperature.
When you get hot your body sends more blood to your skin and away from your muscles, which increases your heart rate. The more you sweat, the more fluids you lose, and if it is humid the sweat stays on your skin making it harder for you to cool off.
Some signs of overheating include:
- The first signs are heat cramps and muscle cramps (usually in legs of stomach)
- You may also experience heat exhaustion, heavy sweating, cold / clammy skin, nausea and vomiting
- Heat Stroke is when the body temperature rises above 104 degrees fahrenheit
To be able to stay cool during the summer heat, make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids before, during and after being active. Make sure to avoid sugary drinks, caffeinated drinks, and alcohol because these drinks may cause you to lose fluids.
Also, try to avoid direct sunlight while working out in the heat. Make sure to try and take breaks in the shade so it can help you cool down. Wear appropriate clothing when working out in the heat / sun, and try to avoid dark colors if outside.
